Earlier in 2017 we brokered our 8th Commonwealth Fellowship, whereby Guyanese health professionals visit the UK for training in the haemoglobinopathies of Sickle Cell disease and Thalassaemia.

Dr Sherelyn Stanton, senior paediatric registrar for haematology and oncology at Georgetown Hospital, was mentored by Dr Lola Oni whom AGNAP had previously sent to Guyana to raise awareness of these diseases, which affect 3.3% of its population. Dr Stanton successfully completed her fellowship earlier this year and is now working with PAHO further to develop a nationwide service for sufferers in Guyana. Further such fellowships and others and now being considered.
